Purification of The Mind Challenge

Day 1 Challenge: The Path of Repentance

“And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.” (Surah An-Nur 24:31)

For one day, commit to deep repentance by setting aside time for self-reflection and sincere supplication. Begin by identifying a habit, action, or mindset that distances you from God, then perform two rak’ahs of Salat al-Tawbah (prayer of repentance) with sincerity. Throughout the day, consciously guard your commitment to sincerely turn away from that thing, ensuring that each moment reflects your desire for renewal. Before sleeping, write down one action you will take to avoid falling back into old habits.

Reflect on this:

  • What emotions arose when you sincerely asked for forgiveness?
  • Did you notice any resistance in acknowledging your faults?
  • How should repentance impact your sense of spiritual clarity?

Tips for Success:

  • Recognize that repentance is an ongoing process, not a one-time act.
  • Make repentance a habit by setting aside a daily moment for self-reflection.
  • Trust that God’s mercy outweighs any sin, as long as you sincerely turn back to Him.

Day 2 Challenge: Cultivating Love for God

“And those who believe are stronger in love for God.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:165)

Today, make God your focal point by dedicating your actions to His pleasure. Begin your morning by reciting and reflecting on the verse “And those who believe are stronger in love for God” (2:165). Choose one act of worship—prayer, charity, or helping someone—and perform it with the conscious intention of seeking God’s love. Throughout the day, when your mind drifts to worldly attachments, gently bring it back with remembrance, repeating La ilaha illa Allah with presence. Before bed, write a letter to God expressing your longing for His nearness.

Reflect on this:

  • What does it mean for your heart to act purely for God? What impact should this have?
  • Are you aware of distractions that compete with your love for Him?
  • How should remembrance of God influence your interactions?

Tips for Success:

  • Replace meaningless distractions with moments of silent reflection or remembrance.
  • Actively redirect your thoughts to God when caught up in worldly concerns.
  • Remember that true love is reflected in action—prove your love through sincere devotion.
    • Bonus tip: Remember that extra acts of devotion are a means to earn God’s love. Do not take extra acts of devotion lightly. Perform them knowing that through them, God’s love for you increases, and receiving the Love of God is no light matter.

Day 3 Challenge: Perseverance in Worship and Purity of Intention

“Say, ‘Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for God, Lord of the worlds.’” (Surah Al-An’am 6:162)

Commit to consistency in worship by ensuring all your prayers are performed with focus and sincerity. Before each player, pause and remind yourself why you are praying—to connect with your Creator. Throughout the day, check your intentions in conversations, work, and acts of service, ensuring they remain pure and free from seeking praise. Choose one small, hidden act of goodness and perform it solely for God’s sake. Before sleeping, reflect on the moments when you struggled with sincerity and ask God to purify your heart.

Reflect on this:

  • Do you notice any insincerity in your actions?
  • How should focusing on intention change the way you approach worship?
  • What practical steps can you take to maintain sincerity in all aspects of life?

Tips for Success:

  • Keep reminding yourself that true success lies in sincerity, not in public recognition.
  • Regularly renew your intention throughout the day, ensuring every action is for God alone.
  • Trust that even the smallest, most unnoticed acts are seen and valued by God.
