Towards Understanding Islam Challenge

Day 1 Challenge: Recognizing and Reaffirming Tawheed

“Say, ‘He is God, [who is] One.'” – (Qur’an 112:1)

Today, be mindful of The Oneness of God in your daily life. Pause before each major decision or action and ask yourself: Am I doing this for the sake of God, The One? Identify one habit or attachment that may be competing with your reliance on God (such as excessive worry over finances, status, or people’s opinions), and begin shifting your perspective to place your trust fully in Him.

Reflect on this:

  • What role does recognizing the Oneness of God play in your decision-making or emotional state?
  • Are there any worldly attachments or concerns that you recognize as possibly taking priority over your establishing a strong connection with The Creator, that you’re ashamed to admit?

Tips for Success:

  • Start your day by reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas (Qur’an 112) and reflecting on its meaning.
  • When facing stress or uncertainty, remind yourself: God is sufficient for me.
  • Replace negative thoughts with La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but The God) throughout the day.

Day 2 Challenge: Living Islam as a Way of Life

“Say, ‘Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for God, Lord of the worlds.’” – (Qur’an 6:162)

Islam is not just a belief—it’s a way of life. Today, choose one daily activity (such as work, eating, or interactions with others) and transform it into an act of worship. Set an intention before engaging in it, seeking God’s pleasure. Notice how this shift impacts your actions, mindset, and connection to your faith.

Reflect on this:

  • How does changing your intention to reflect servitude to God, affect your experience of a mundane task?
  • Did you notice a greater sense of peace or purpose in your actions?

Tips for Success:

  • Begin each task with Bismillah (In the name of God) and end with Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to God).
  • Treat work, family care, and community service as acts of worship.
  • Avoid actions that contradict Islamic principles, even if they seem small.

Day 3 Challenge: Trusting in God’s Plan (Tawakkul)

“And whoever relies upon God – then He is sufficient for him.” – (Qur’an 65:3)

Today, practice complete trust in your Lord (Tawakkul). Whenever something unexpected happens—whether minor or significant—resist the urge to complain or panic. Instead, say Alhamdulillah and remind yourself that God’s plan is always better than yours. Surrender your worries to Him in prayer and move forward with trust.

Reflect on this:

  • How has trusting in God eased your stress or anxiety in the past?
  • How did your perspective on challenges shift by surrendering them to God?

Tips for Success:

  • When things don’t go as planned, say Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (We belong to God, and to Him we return).
  • Reflect on past difficulties that ultimately led to blessings in disguise.
  • Perform Sujood ash-Shukr (Prostration of Gratitude) when you recognize God’s wisdom in a situation.
